This is the story of a rich widowed merchant who had three daughters. Two of them, the two eldest daughters, were presumptuous and vain, and the youngest, whom they called Bella because of her beauty, was, however, humble and kind. They all always had suitors willing to marry them. But while the two older sisters contemptuously rejected all the candidates, as they longed to marry a nobleman, Bella received them and conversed with them, although she politely rejected them.

A stroke of bad fortune made the merchant lose all his wealth, so all the suitors disappeared, since money was the only reason to marry such women. Bella, however, kept getting propositions, but she kept turning them down. One day, news came that one of the merchant's ships had arrived at the port with merchandise. Her two older daughters asked her to bring them jewelry and dresses, but Bella, her youngest daughter, told her that just one rose would make her happy.

Returning from the port, the merchant gets lost in the forest and finds refuge in a nearby castle. In said castle he eats and rests, and the next day, just after taking a rose from the beautiful garden, a horrendous beast surprises him and forces him to ask for forgiveness.

The merchant begs to see his daughters one last time, to which the beast replies that he can go to see them one more time, but in return, he will have to bring one of them to take his place. . The merchant returns home and explains what happened to his three daughters, after which his youngest daughter Bella offers to take her father's place, to the delight of her two older sisters and the despair of the elderly parent. her. Bella reminds her father that promises have to be kept, and that if she hadn't asked for a rose, nothing would have happened.

However, once there, the Beast granted her father her freedom, ordering her never to return. And gently, he took Bella to some rich chambers, so that she would live out her entire life in the castle. After a while, every night the Beast visited Beauty and asked her to marry her, but Beauty replied that she would only grant him her friendship. They spent three pleasant months in the castle, where the Beast showered Beauty with attention, and she reciprocated with gestures of friendship. One day, Beauty saw in her magic mirror that her old father was very ill, and she begged the Beast to let her see him one last time, to which the Beast agreed, on the condition that she return to the eight days. She promised him gratefully, and set off for her home.

Once there, her two older sisters, sadly married to low-level people, invented a trap so that Bella would be in her house for more than eight days. Realizing that she had broken her promise, the girl leaves for the castle and finds the Beast in a meadow, dying, because of the sadness that Belle's absence had caused him. She kneels before the beast, which already exhales the last minutes of her life, and, between tears, begs him not to die, since she loves him and wants to be his wife. Hearing these words, the Beast heals and magically transforms into a beautiful and handsome prince. It is now revealed that this prince, because of the curse of an evil witch, had been transformed into a horrible beast so that no woman would want to marry him; and that the only way to break the curse was for someone to fall in love with him on their own, without knowing the truth.

Beauty and the prince got married and lived happily in the castle, together with their father, while Bella's two older sisters were transformed into stone statues, but without losing consciousness, so that they could witness Bella's happiness, her younger sister.
